Low back exercises are very useful to strengthen the lumbar spine musculature. These exercises are basically of two types: Flexion and Extension. Extension exercises (6 to 10) involve off loading the discs and are usually advised to young and middle aged individuals. Flexion exercises (1 to 5) involve off loading the facet joints and are usually prescribed to elderly individuals. The exercises shown are for demonstration purpose only and should only be performed after consulting your spine surgeon under the supervision of a physiotherapist.
Do these stretches and hold for a count of five at maximum stretch. Repeat each exercise five to ten times (one set) as per comfort. Do each set of exercises three to four times a day.
